75 years ago, Wilfred Cockshott started our company. It was 1946, and the world was still feeling the effects wrought by global war. Despite the hardships the country was facing, Wilf was an optimistic and experienced entrepreneur, so he was comfortable taking risks. He began with three employees and one truck. He believed in competing through customer service and support, treating team members with fairness and respect, and that you build an effective business by growing the people around you.
Three generations later, Wilf’s influence is still felt in the company, and because we still practice his principles - we continue to take calculated risks, invest in the growth of our team members, and innovate like entrepreneurs.
The odds of a 3rd generation family business being here today - much less the largest independent gas distributor in Canada – are less than 10%. Why have we succeeded where so many have not? It’s because of generations of hardworking, talented, and innovative team members.
Now, amidst a pandemic, we are once again facing global hardship – but through the dedication of our team members, we continue to put the safety and success of our customers first.
We are excited to see what the next 75 years will bring.
