Now led by the third generation of our founding family, we are Canada’s largest independent producer and supplier of industrial gases.
In 1936, Wilf Cockshott started selling acetylene gas to welders at Garry Battery and Radiator Company in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Welders Supplies came into being ten years later, starting with three people and a truck.
A new branch opened in Brandon in 1956, and another in Thompson in 1970. Medigas Manitoba, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Innovair Group, was established in 1976 to serve hospitals, clinics and respiratory patients in Manitoba. In 1984, a 30,000 square-foot facility was built as the new home for Welders Supplies and Medigas. In 2005, we became the first independent distributor of industrial gases to offer Microbulk Gas Delivery in Western Canada. We started using the name Innovair in 2014, a name that embodies our innovative approach to supplying and distributing industrial and medical gases.
Today, Innovair Group is comprised of four businesses: Innovair Industrial (formerly Welders Supplies), Innovair Automation, Medigas Manitoba and Innovair Medical. With nearly 100 employees, thousands of compressed gas cylinders in circulation and a fleet of specialized delivery equipment, we are able to supply industrial and medical gases and related equipment to industrial and healthcare facilities, municipalities and patients across Canada.
